Following news of Speakap’s expansion into the UK market, this week we say ‘Ello! to our new Managing Director of UK & Ireland, Guy Chiswick. Although Guy takes his work seriously, he believes that you should never have the same attitude about yourself.
Where were you born, and where do you live now?
I was born in Yorkshire, known to many in the UK as “God’s Kingdom”. For the past 20 years I have lived in London, but I have also been lucky enough to travel extensively through work. I’ve spent a lot of time in Amsterdam, Dublin and Geneva, but I’ve also travelled to New York quite a bit.
And outside of work travel - any highlights?
San Sebastian is a destination that comes to mind, however Amsterdam is a pretty special place to me - and it’s not just because of Speakap. After spending a lot of time in the city during my younger years, I’ve been lucky enough to spend more time here professionally to really appreciate the diversity of the city.
Tell us about your role at Speakap?
As Managing Director UK&I, my role is to successfully launch the UK and Irish business and help expand the international footprint.
And where did you work previously?
I have over 20 years experience in commercial leadership with some of the biggest brands in media, marketing and digital. However, my last role was Managing Director of Webloyalty; I was responsible for growing the Northern European business. Through our online shopper saving programmes, we helped both shoppers to make money and online retailers to save money, operating in 8 markets with 250+ retail partners.
What excites you about working at Speakap?
Four things - the product, the proposition, the people and the opportunity. I’m excited to launch Speakap in UK and grow the European business.
Outside of work - what are you passionate about?
I love sport - both following and participating. I used to do a lot of multisports (triathlons), but now that’s changed to cycling, gym, and golf. Great music, food and drink, travelling. I would also like to read more, but it can be hard to find the time!
And what are your guilty pleasures?
I don’t have any guilt over my pleasures!
Where is your next dream vacation destination?
A USA roadtrip with my family, now that the children are at an age where they will appreciate it.
Are there any achievements that you’re especially proud of?
Professionally, I’m proud of my achievements as Managing Director at Webloyalty. Under my leadership we doubled the size of the UK business and launched successful businesses in Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland.
And obviously I’m proud of my family and am lucky to have two lovely kids. Outside of my amazing family, I’m also proud of my role as Vice-Chair of Governors at my children's school. I volunteer my business experience to help the school run effectively and give back to the community.
I know it’s still new, but how would you summarise working at Speakap in three words?
High-energy (yes, that’s me cheating)
Hyper-focused (another cheat, but it’s true)
If you had to choose a song that summarises your life philosophy, what would it be?
Queen - Don’t stop me now!
