Mix Spanish roots with a lot of enthusiasm and you’ll get Ricardo! He’s passionate about everything that has to do with space and music, and besides he is a very skilled iOS developer. We're happy to have him in our midst and you'll get to know him better in this edition of our 'meet-the-team' series.
Where are you from?
I was born in Madrid and I lived there until two years ago.
Madrid sounds good...tell us more!
I love Spain: my best friends and family are all there, the food is SO good… but I just can’t stand the heat! I’ve always believed that I should have been born in a different country. I prefer cold weather.
That explains your move towards The Netherlands. How did you end up at Speakap?
I first moved to Belgium where I was working for a big bank. It was a nice experience, but I wanted to work in a more personal and “fast-paced” environment. So when I found Speakap, it was just what I was looking for and I didn’t think twice.
How long have you been working here?
I joined the team on July 2017, but the team has grown so fast I feel like I’ve been here longer!
What exactly do you do at Speakap?
I work in the Mobile development team as a senior iOS developer.
I love Spain, but I just can’t stand the heat! I’ve always believed that I should have been born in a different country.
What do you like about working at Speakap?
The whole team is just awesome: the levels of expertise and professionalism are up the roof. Also, if you have an idea which could improve the app, you can implement it without having to discuss it in endless meetings.
What is the biggest (work related) challenge that you face in 2018?
As we are growing so much, we must adapt to keep control of the development process while maintaining the quality of the code we create.
This is your number one hobby:
If I want to chill out, I play board games with friends or videogames on the Nintendo Switch. I also love to travel and this year I will drive the “Route 66” on a motorcycle with my brother, and a Canadian road trip on a campervan with my friends.
What can we wake you up for in the middle of the night?
Any cool astronomical event (eclipses, meteor showers, comets...). It’s usually clouded here in The Netherlands, so if there are clear skies and there’s an event happening it’s a chance I don’t want to miss!
Which festivals are you going to visit this summer?
I’m going to RockWerchter in Belgium for the third year in a row. I also have tickets for Ed Sheeran, 30 Seconds To Mars and Alt-J.
When your grey and old, where do you want to be?
The way things are going with SpaceX… on a spaceship to Mars! Come on Elon, make it happen!
